SESSION 4: QUALITIES AND COMMITMENTS OF A LEADER

Recap: Last week we said that the function of leadership in the church is to know where God wants his people to be and to rely on God’s power and use his methods to get them there. We said that he uses leaders to (1) bring people into relationship with him (2) by helping them expose sin in their lives and (3) bringing that sin to the cross where individuals can be transformed. Today we will discuss the unique qualities and commitments of the type of people who are able to do that.

 If you are interested in the subject of Christian leadership as it is executed in the church one of the best resources in the scriptures are 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, as well as 1 Peter. Today we will be skimming through 1 & 2 Timothy, mining it for qualities and commitments in leaders that God values for the church. My hope is that today we may learn how to respond to leadership. My other aim is that we will learn what qualities and commitments must be present in our own lives in order to lead others.
