Andrew,

My apologies for the offense caused. As for the situation in Tasmania, I have no dog in that fight and am admittedly ignorant of the affairs. I did find the comments about how a church changes to be spot on as well as the observations on liberal theological commitments and their affect on church growth. Thanks for the input.

I am a little offended by the comments about the changes in Tasmania. The current bishop has not turned things around, just shut down the unprofitable country churches with a second rate ministry and compromised the integrity of the diocese by accepting money from Sydney. He chased out liberals, anglocatholics and evangelicals that had experience and replaced them with undereducated and underexperienced clergy, Of his two 'assistant bishops' one is a raving liberal.

His nomination for Melbourne was sunk, because he tried to get it by political means. People actually looked at what he had done in Tasmania (and not the press spin) and realised he had nothing to offer. He was defeated by the numbers of good clergy of all persuasions who had worked with him and now were in Melbourne.

I realize "our disposition and affections determine the necessity of our choices". But forgive my ignorance, but why is our sin and the mother's child considered equal? I'm sure I'm missing something, but I can't understand it!

10The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?"

11He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 13This is why I speak to them in parables:
   "Though seeing, they do not see;
      though hearing, they do not hear or understand. 14In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
   " 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
      you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15For this people's heart has become calloused;
      they hardly hear with their ears,
      and they have closed their eyes.
   Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
      hear with their ears,
      understand with their hearts
   and turn, and I would heal them.'[a] 16But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

In the article are the words - "..Some persons, when they see Christ.." - How do you SEE Christ? Jesus said to the Jews, "You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you.." - quite some words. They claimed to understand what the scriptures revealed about the Messiah and yet they rejected him - they considered Jesus' testimony to be invalid. So what they 'saw' was only a product of their own minds and imaginations, although they claimed to have authority from God to teach the people. Doesn't making an 'informed' decision depend on the kinds and measures of information available to you? The people were amazed at what Jesus said and did - "..as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law." They were being exposed to things that the teachers of the law had not provided. So, before, they were misinformed - and their decisions were made accordingly.
Do you think Christianity properly informs you?
